About Us

SOS Prairie Rescue is a 100% volunteer-driven, no-kill, nonprofit organization dedicated to rescuing, rehabilitating, and rehoming stray, abandoned, and surrendered cats across Saskatchewan.

Focused on addressing the challenges of cat overpopulation, particularly in rural and underserved areas, SOS provides vital care through a network of fosters, veterinarians, and compassionate volunteers. Beyond rescue, the organization champions spay/neuter initiatives, Trap-Neuter-Release-Manage (TNRM) programs, and community education to tackle the root causes of homelessness and neglect.

SOS Prairie Rescue is committed to building a future where every cat has a safe, loving home and no cat is left behind.

Our Story

SOS Prairie Rescue was founded in 2019 to address the urgent need for cat rescue and overpopulation management across Saskatchewan, especially in rural and underserved areas. As a volunteer-driven nonprofit, we’ve grown into a vital resource, rescuing and rehabilitating thousands of stray, abandoned, and surrendered cats. With the support of dedicated fosters, veterinary partners, and volunteers, we provide care, love, and second chances to cats who would otherwise be left without hope.

Beyond rescue, we tackle the root causes of overpopulation through spay/neuter initiatives like Beat-the-Heat, the province’s first Spay-it-Forward program, and Trap-Neuter-Release-Manage (TNRM) services. By combining education, community support, and proactive care, we’re working toward a future where every cat has a safe, loving home. Together, we can create lasting change for cats and their communities across Saskatchewan.

Meet the Board

  • ASHLYN WENINGER: President

What started as a “low-key” fostering gig in 2021 quickly evolved into a central leadership role for Ashlyn at SOS Prairie Rescue. With a sharp eye for detail and a heart dedicated to every cat that crosses our path, Ashlyn oversees everything from creating essential protocols and managing databases to tracking every cat from intake to adoption. Her strong leadership, organizational savvy, and operational oversight keep the rescue running smoothly—even when things get a little wild (as they often do in rescue!). Ashlyn’s commitment ensures no cat is forgotten and no task is left undone.

  • SYDNEY DAVIS: Vice President

Sydney wears many hats at SOS—foster coordinator, adoption event planner, and newly crowned expert in the fine art of cleaning up after kittens. Her boundless energy and “get it done right” attitude have made her a superstar on our team. Originally joining as a foster (with her whole family jumping in, too!), Sydney has become an essential part of SOS, bringing a bubbly and creative flair to everything she does. We’re so grateful to have her enthusiasm lighting up the rescue!

  • MAAIKE MCGILL: Treasurer

Maaike started her SOS journey as a foster and quickly became a cornerstone of our rescue family. Now our longest-standing board member and Treasurer, she’s the definition of “cat lady with a calculator.” Known for her endless optimism and unparalleled generosity, Maaike combines her love for cats with sharp business savvy. She’s always ready to help fosters and has earned the title “Queen of Poop Troubleshooting.” No mess is too messy for Maaike!

  • KATIE EDWARDS

Katie started as an SOS Foster, but as a Type A control freak, she got involved with the Board fairly quickly. Katie would like to spend all day reading indoors with her pets, but is willing to leave the house for cat-related activities. Katie handles communications related tasks for the rescue, including support on social media and the website.

  • MADDIE FAST

Maddie is a true jack-of-all-trades on the team, most often found trapping at TNRs or behind the scenes keeping the rescue’s website up to date. Her cat rescue journey began in 2019 with her first foster—who never left. Little did she know, she was saving him just as much as he was saving her. Since then, she’s recruited her parents into fostering and most recently wrangled “Cat Step-Grandpa” into driving a foster all the way to Richmond, BC.

Maddie is also the president’s right-hand partner in chaos—whether it's driving to PA at 10 p.m. to pick up cats evacuated from a wildfire, or heading to a trailer park “just to look” and coming back with 20 cats. If there’s a spontaneous cat mission, Maddie’s probably in the passenger seat.

Our board is made up of a group of passionate volunteers who work tirelessly in our spare time to rescue cats in the province of Saskatchewan. As a non-profit, volunteer-run organization, our mission is to provide a no-kill, foster-based, and community funded approach to cat rescue and rehabilitation.

“With a deep commitment to animal welfare, our dedicated team is making a difference in the lives of countless felines in need.”
